2. Stripping the Insulation
Place the wire into the correctly sized stripping notch for your wire gauge (e.g., 14 AWG, 12 AWG). Gently squeeze and rotate the tool slightly to score the plastic insulation, then pull it straight off.
Do not nick the copper strands, as this reduces the wire's current capacity and mechanical strength.Twist stranded wires together tightly so no frayed strands escape when you attach the connector.
3. Crimping
Slide the stripped wire into the connector.
Insulated Terminals: Match the terminal type (usually color-coded Red, Blue, or Yellow) to the corresponding slot on your ratcheting crimper or multi-tool.
Open Barrel Terminals: Use "W" style or cradle dies that roll the metal tabs over both the bare copper (for conductivity) and the wire insulation (for strain relief).
Ferrules: Used for securing fine, multi-stranded wires in terminal blocks. Slide the ferrule over the stripped wire and use a ferrule crimper.
4. Testing the Connection
Always perform a "tug test" by gently pulling on the wire and the connector to ensure they do not separate.
